#998 new Defect

Colloquy unusable in VoiceOver

Reported by: nickshanks Owned by: timothy
Component: Colloquy (Mac) Version: 2.1 (Mac)
Severity: Critical Keywords:

Description (last modified by jane)

Colloquy is pretty much unusable for blind people (and developers who get messaged in the background while testing their apps with VoiceOver?!).

Problems include:

  • Not able to change tabs (I use adium-style tabbed interface); nor read out the tab names
  • Navigation is a nightmare (e.g. trying to get to the IRC messages, it reads "edit text; splitter; html content, interact with html content; two items; group; frame one; interact with frame one; thirteen thousand five hundred and twenty items; link; proton" at which point I would be somewhere in the content, which seems to vary depending on scroll bar position [unknown since I can't see it])
  • The HTML content is difficult to navigate (Bland appearance), lots of unnecessary groupings (joined/left rooms, etc)
  • No notification of what channels have messages waiting for you
  • No way to jump to messages with your keywords in them (the ones that cause a line to appear in the scroll bar)
  • Coming into a channel you start at the top, not at the bottom, pressing up repeatedly reads messages in reverse chronological order.

If you don't know how to use VoiceOver?, try running through this first:
