Show the full message in Growl

Reported by: gelfie Assigned to: Rinoa
Priority: normal Component: Colloquy (GUI)
Version: 2.0 (2D16) Severity: minor
Keywords: growl notices notification Cc:

Description

I notice that when using growl, Notices show the actual text of the notice. However when someone mentions my hilight word or sends me a private message I get rather useless generic messages like:

One of your hilight words was mention on #channelname

or

Xxxx has sent you 3 private messages.

Is there any way I can get growl to display the entire line of text my hilight word was mentioned on, or the entire personal message?

Agreed - this is really annoying. The "One of your hilight words was mention on #channelname" notification is next to useless and requires you to click to kill the bubble (no way to have it fade AFAIK, very annoying).

Better to show the comment in the growl notification and let the user use Growl settings to limit the size of the notification themselves.

I can imagine this now.. "gelfie, I so want to get in your pants" shown in a growl notification as your boss walks in.. People will complain of a security risk if this option is enabled. We could mention what highlight word was mentioned, but the whole message is a no-go. Only reason notice messages shows up in Growl is because the only other way to read the message is by having the Console open at the same time.

I don't see the problem with this as long as the user has a choice to turn it off.

I for one would like to keep colloquy open in the background while seen the messages show up in full as growl notifications and jump in whenever it gets interesting.

Boss walking in, etc. are usage scenarios that shouldn't affect product design as long as they are not forced by default.

i agree with anonymous, if someone doesnt want embarassing notification bubbles, he can stop cybering when he should be working, or turn off growl...

Is this up for consideration in the next release?

As someone else mentioned, Adium's flexibility in this area is all that I am seeking.

I know this is old but I'd like to see this as well. As previous comments have stated this is how the Adium notification works and it's also how the Mail.app notification works. You see the notification and if it's interesting you switch to the app.

Also since this is open source I might try to provide a patch. Even something that's just configurable via 'defaults' would work for me.
