Colloquy is in much need of avatar support. IRC has support for avatars; little pictures that appear next to names. The smooth Operator theme has support for them BUT only local ones that are in your adress book. I believe that Colloquy needs to add irc avatar support. Why? Asides from it being an irc-supported feature that every client should have in order to be a complete irc client it is a great feature to have to keep track of who said what, etc.

If anyone could develop a plugin or the feature could be added into colloquy I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Erm, since when does the IRC protocol support avatars? I have yet to see any IRC client that displays these so-called avitars, and I can tell you it's not in the IRC protocol.

from what i hear it does. Chatzilla supports them. So i dunno. maybe you can look in the source of that.

would you provide a link to an appropriate RFC (or its part) describing IRC avatars?

I somehow think it's not defined there. I also somehow think you're wrong about Chatzilla. Maybe, it lets you define avatars locally for those users you want.

KVirc has an inter-client avatar protocol : see http://www.kvirc.de/docu/doc_ctcp_avatar.html

As much as I like the idea of avatar support for IRC.. It is not a standard feature and adding it would be so terribly difficult. I don't see it actually being done in Colloquy, and that the Smooth Operator style was our attempt to making it as nice as possible. IF Timothy thinks he's willing to try this, he can reopen this. ONLY if he WILL do it. Or else I'll eat him for leading us on.
