Typing "foo(tm)<Enter>" sometimes leaves "foo(™)" in the input box while still sending "foo(tm)"

It appears that this autocorrection happens on a timer, and if you press the enter key at the wrong time, the corrected text remains in the input box, and the original text gets sent to the channel.

The autocorrection is done on a system-wide level by Apple on all NSTextField's. You can disable it, either by right clicking on the textfield and going to the appropriate menu, or in System Preferences -> Language & Text -> Text.
