#3127 closed Defect (Fixed)

Chat appears out of order and assigned to "wrong" sender

Reported by: veddermatic Owned by: timothy
Component: Colloquy (Mac) Version: 2.3 (Mac)
Severity: Major Keywords:
Cc:

Description

I have only noticed this in 2.4, but searching brought up issue #3111 which may be similar (tough to tell from the almost non-existant description.) After an indeterminate amount of time (or possibly number of messages, unsure) new messages in a channel will be appended to another user's pre-existing message envelopes "above" where they should be.

For example if channel looks like this:

person_A: How now brown cow.
person_B: Twinkle twinkle

and then person B types 'little star', chat will then look like:

person_A: How now brown cow.
                little star
person_B: Twinkle twinkle

When the behavior begins, there is a visual "nesting" of a message inside another user's envelope block. Then the reported behavior beings. /reload style will cause Colloquy properly display all errant text again.

I have screenshots of it (along with that "nesting") along with a snippet of log file that pertains to it. The log file appears to me to be "correct". All the envelope, sender, and message tags are in the right place and closed. Please contact me if you would like those files.

Replying to zach:
I'm using 2.4.2 and still see this bug occuring.

Me too on 2.4.2. I use the Fiat style, for whatever that's worth. And if I change the style and change it back to Fiat, everything's in the proper order, until the next time it happens. Which usually isn't very long.

I just realized that the last half of that was already described in the last paragraph of the original bug. Sorry!

Oh, and I've found that a very good way to trigger this reliably is to do a /msg NickServ? HELP on Freenode. Getting all those messages almost simultaneously makes Colloquy freak out every time.

Seeing the bug on Synapse theme, version 2.4.2 build 5815. It's making it hard to follow the conversation. If it persists with DecafBlend?(inverted), I plan to uninstall and find a more reliable client.

Confirming bug in 2.4.2 build 5815. Very easy to reproduce with NickServ? or ChanServ? help. I've only tried in the Fiat theme.
