#301 closed Defect (Works for Me)

Spotlight chokes on Colloquy transcript files.

Reported by: scottfab@… Owned by: timothy
Component: Colloquy (Mac) Version: 2.0 (Mac)
Severity: Major Keywords: spotlight transcripts

Every time I logged in, Spotlight (process mdimport) took up nearly 100% cpu for up to 10 minutes. I finally tried the terminal command lsof | grep mdimport | grep /Users/whoami to determine the problem. Turns out it was a colloquy transcript file. I deleted it. CPU usage didnt go down. Tried it again. A new transcript file. Trashed it, tried again, a new transcript. I trashed them all. Tried again. Still choking, but this time on the transcripts in the trash. Tried to empty trash, said files were in use. Disabled logging in Colloquy and force emptied trash with Cocktail. Spotlight instantly stopped. Logged out and in again, spotlight remained quiet. I have not tried restarting using Colloquy transcripts yet. Frankly, I dont want the hassle.

Spotlight indexes transcripts fine in 2D16+ on 10.4.2. The Spotlight importer was only completely finished in 2D16 (see Changes.rtf in the distribution), have you tried this version yet? If the problem still persists in the latest release, please update this bug report, as it may be a system-specific issue.

This should be better is [2944]. Try the nightly now. It might still use 100% CPU but memory might be reduced and finish faster.
