Colloquy doesn't seem to highlight nicks containing (at least ending) with a ^ (carot).

this is about nicks ending in ^ or ` (grave accent?) and maybe other chars. if you type these nicks in the chat, they are not recognized as such: no tags in the transcript, no context menu.
