Echo notices to current chat window

Description

As of right now only messages from Chanserv show up in the chat. It would be nice to see messages from the server that are not just from ChanServ.

As an example, when you join a channel, sometimes there is a welcome message that displays. Only the ones from Chanserv show up. It would be nice to see the ones from bots.

In short, seeing more server notices would be nice.

Crazy amount of tabs from weird notice handling.

  • summary changed from Chanserv the only notice in chat to Echo notices to current chat window

To clarify, this request is to echo all notices into the current chat, instead of just showing entrymsg notices in the channel that they belong to.

Yes, instead of just Entry/Exit messages it would be nice to see messages from bots and services such as...

botserv
chanserv
memoserv
nickserv

As of right now all of them get echoed out to the server terminal screen.

there are some other tickets related to better handling of notices, but this particular one is not going to happen. could be implemented as a plugin though...

It's a shame this won't be fixed. It's a big problem for those of us who heavily use IRC. Without this simple change, I'm going to have to go back to X-Chat Aqua.

how is the current behavior a big problem for people "who heavily use IRC"?

I'm either flooded with Growl messages I can't read or I get an insane number of new tabs as all the services and bots notice me. I spend more time managing the tabs in the UI than I do paying attention to what is going on in the channels I've joined.

This issue isn't just mine - when I told some fellow developers (we all use IRC to collaborate) I was trying to move from X-Chat to Colloquy, they all complained about this issue. I dismissed them and moved all my settings over anyway. Two days later I was back in X-Chat.

I really want to run Colloquy so I can also bounce IRC to my iPhone with push support. As it is, I just can't. The UI is in my way.

I'm attaching a view of my tabs after being away from my desk for only a small amount of time. What I failed to capture was the huge list of Growl bubbles down the side of my screen that accompanied this mess.

THIS is what I mean by "a big problem for people who heavily use IRC." The interface is so "in the way" that it's practically unusable. I spend more time managing tabs than I do following discussions.
