#1463 closed Defect (Won't Fix)

Auto-completion broken for non-English users

Reported by: g.lundmark@… Owned by: kiji.roshi
Component: Colloquy (iOS) Version: 1.0 (iOS)
Severity: Minor Keywords: Auto-completion bug

Auto-completion doesn't work well with non-English users, because Colloquy displays possible nickname matches instead of alternative spellings:

A common word in swedish is "är" which means "are". By typing "ar" on the iPhone keyboard, iPhone recognizes the correct word and displays "är" as auto-completion suggestion. But in Colloquy, the auto-suggestion will disappear instantly and Colloquy will instead display all the nicknames starting with "ar", like "artur", "arUst00pid" and so forth.

While the the nickname auto-completion in Colloquy is great, it's overlapping the system-wide iPhone auto-completion.

The workaround is simple for now: just hold down A long enough to manually make a Å or Ä.

This is tricky and likely not possible to fix. Since we prefer nick completions over auto correction. Since typing a nick almost always confuses the iPhone and wants to autocorrect to a real word. Your workaround is the preferred way around this. Or don't join rooms with people that start with "ar". :)
