#1461 closed Defect (Fixed)

long lines don't appear in channels

Reported by: snaury@… Owned by: timothy
Component: Chat Core (IRC) Version: 2.2 (Mac)
Severity: Normal Keywords: irc long message string length utf8

The RusNet? IRC network supports different ports for different encodings, and among them there is a port for utf-8. Now there's a situation when a user that uses port for national encoding sends a really long message, and when Colloquy receives it it is displayed correctly in the console, but there's not a single trace of it in channel windows.

The test string that I've been using is long (427 characters including whitespace, punctuation, and russian characters), which, when encoded as utf-8, becomes 768 bytes long. It appears that Colloquy might be somehow confused that the server sends a message that is bigger than 512 bytes, but then the most surprising is that this message is displayed correctly in the console.

If there are some problems with displaying the whole message in channels, then at least it's better if it would be truncated or divided into several lines. But I hope it can be displayed in full. Otherwise it becomes too risky to use utf-8 on russian servers with Colloque.

I see this problem on Colloque 2.2.1
