Messages on channel with name "#" are received as PRIVMSGs

Description

If you join a channel which has a name of just # all messages posted there are showed as private messages in the colloquy interface.

Is a channel of just "#" even allowed? Did this work in Colloquy before? Do other clients support it?

It's allowed on our hybrid ircd.

It works in all other clients I've used (Linkinus, irssi, rooms etc.)
